JEEP WRANGLER OR JEEP GLADIATOR: YOU CAN'T GO WRONG EITHER WAY

2021-02-12
You want to buy a Jeep® Wrangler, but you are also curious about the Jeep Gladiator? Could the Gladiator give you everything you want from the Wrangler with the added convenience of a truck? If you’re not sure which direction you should take, first know that you can't make a bad choice, as both vehicles provide incredible experiences for their owners.
In fact, it's just a matter of properly assessing your needs in order to make the right choice.
Let's see what makes them different.

Body

With the Wrangler you have two body options, either the two-door Sport models or the four-door Unlimited series. With the Gladiator, only the four-door configuration is possible.
Of course, the Wrangler is an SUV in the purest sense of the word while in the case of the Gladiator, you get all the benefits of the SUV, but also the versatility that a truck gives you with a bed to haul larger items as needed.
And, of course, there is the matter of personal taste. If the 2021 Jeep Wrangler is more attractive to you, or if it's the 2021 Jeep Gladiator that has you more excited, you already have a good idea of the model that’s right for you.

Off-Road Capability

When it comes to off-road capability, with a few exceptions, it's all the same. For those who like to venture off the beaten track, each model offers a Rubicon version. The latter is equipped with everything you need to tackle the most tortuous paths. Lockable front and rear differentials, as well as a front stabilizer bar that can be electronically disengaged, the Rubicon’s hardware allows the chassis to work miracles when clearing obstacles.

Towing Capacity

If you want to tow heavy loads, then you may need to go for the Gladiator. In fact, with the Wrangler, it doesn't matter what version and what engine is under the hood, the limit is set at 1,588 kg, or 3,500 pounds. With the Gladiator, the capacity can go up to 7,650 pounds (3,469 kg) with the 3.6-litre V-6 engine or to 6,500 pounds (2,948 kg) with the 3.0-litre EcoDiesel V-6. The 2021 Jeep Gladiator has the highest towing capacity of any V-6-powered midsize truck.

Under the Hood

Speaking of mechanics, two options remain unique to the Wrangler. First, the 2.0-litre turbo engine offers 270 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. It is well suited to all versions but is particularly suitable for two-door Sport models.
Then, with the 4xe version which recently made its debut, you get all of the advantages of a plug-in hybrid powertrain that will allow you to drive in all-electric mode during your daily commute.

Alternatively, both vehicles can be fitted with the 3.6-litre PentastarTM V-6, an engine that delivers 285 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque, or the 3.0-litre EcoDiesel V-6, a turbocharged engine that delivers 260 horsepower and 442 lb-ft of torque.
Finally, in terms of equipment, you will find the same characteristics from one model to another, depending of course on the version chosen. Note that the Wrangler offers more versions. Nonetheless, there are enough versions of the Gladiator to find the right fit for your needs.
Ultimately, your personal taste and needs will determine which of the two models best meets your specific situation. Again, remember, there are no bad choices.
