Jeep Wrangler 2-Door vs Unlimited: The Original and the Reasonable | Jeep Canada

JEEP WRANGLER 2 DOORS VS UNLIMITED: THE ORIGINAL AND THE REASONABLE

2021-03-03
The Jeep Wrangler’s history is as rich as it is long. From humble beginnings as an off-roading vehicle and tool to traverse inhospitable areas, the Jeep Wrangler has evolved into an extremely accomplished vehicle. Throughout its evolution, it has always remained true to its roots and has never lost sight of what it was always meant to be: One of the most competent off-road vehicles available on the market.
It also offers numerous versions including the 2-door and the 4-door Unlimited. For many, the first decision when configuring their dream Wrangler will be determining which body type to go for.

All Jeep Wranglers are Exceptional Off-Roaders

The Wrangler formula is one that stands the test of time and although there are multiple Wrangler trims available, they are all created from the same recipe that applies to both the 2-door and 4-door Unlimited. This means that both Wrangler body styles receive the innovative and legendary 4x4 systems the Jeep Brand is known for. For the ultimate off-roading experience, the extremely popular and capable Rubicon trim is available in both the 2-door version and the 4-door Unlimited version.
Both body styles have their advantages. Diehard off-roading enthusiasts will tell you that the 2-door’s shorter wheelbase delivers a sharper breakover angle, a necessary measure when negotiating the harshest of terrains. Although this might be true, both the 2-door and Unlimited have nearly identical departure angles and extremely similar approach angles. What’s more, ground clearance is unaffected. The fact is that no matter the selected body style, your Wrangler will be unmatched when the time comes to leave the beaten path.

A Difference for Rear Passengers

The main consideration for opting for the 4-door Unlimited is extra room in the second row made possible by the longer wheelbase. Both iterations can comfortably carry four passengers however, if there’s a fifth person in your entourage, the Unlimited will give them their own spot on the rear bench. The 4-door Wranglers offer extra head-, shoulder- and legroom for the rear occupants as well.

A Difference in Price

Another consideration is price. The 2021 Jeep Wrangler Sport S 2-door starts at roughly $4,000 less than the 2021 Jeep Wrangler Sport S Unlimited (4-door). The 2-door Rubicon trim is about $2,000 less than the 4-door equivalent. In other words, if value is your number one consideration, the 2-door version will open the doors to the world of Wrangler for less.

Always Appealing

The Jeep Wrangler JL, regardless of the number of doors, is also the best-driving Wrangler in the off-road SUV’s long history. The upgraded structure and chassis components make the Wrangler more comfortable to drive than any before it. And this is done without ever compromising its abilities.

Nearly all Wrangler trims are available with both body styles, from the unique Willys to the legendary Rubicon.
Jeep’s approach to the Wrangler is that the buyer will always get what he or she needs. The two versions can be delivered with the same levels of features and technologies. The only real consideration is what you plan to do with the rear seats.
