JEEP ACTIVE DRIVE 4X4: DISCOVERING WELL-KEPT SECRET

2021-03-03
There are many ingredients that go into the recipe that makes a Jeep vehicle one of a kind on the market. While some are visible, such as the design, others are hidden beneath the outer shell. The various mechanical parts that allow the brand's products to cross just about any terrain and more importantly, go where others cannot.
One of those ingredients is the Jeep Active Drive 4x4 system. Concretely, there are five; two serving the 2021 Compass, 2021 Renegade models, and the Jeep Cherokee. Let's see what each brings to the vehicle it serves.
Diagram illustrating the Jeep Active Drive 4x4 system

Jeep Active Drive 4x4

The Jeep Active Drive 4x4 system is ideal for tackling snow and small trails on a regular basis. The latter actively transitions between front-wheel drive and 4x4 configurations, helping to save fuel when four-wheel traction is not required.

Jeep Active Drive Low 4x4

For those who want more possibilities in off-road driving, the Jeep Active Drive Low 4x4 system (exclusive to Trailhawk models) features a Trail Rated crawl ratio of 20:1 (21:1 on Renegade Trailhawk) to ensure improved performance when it comes to negotiating inhospitable surfaces at low speeds, such as muddy terrain or rocky ground.

Jeep Active Drive I 4x4

With the Jeep Active Drive I 4x4 system, drivers enjoy the benefits of a full-time system that automatically engages the four-wheel drive mode when the situation calls for it – heavy rain, snow, and ice would be a few examples. The system actively monitors wheel slip and automatically distributes torque where it's needed, if it's needed. This has the effect of enhancing the driver's overall confidence level in any situation.

Jeep Active Drive Lock 4x4

The Jeep Active Drive Lock 4x4 system is standard on the Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk. It features 2-speed PTU torque management and a 4-Low mode. The latter is ideal when you want to get maximum traction at very low speeds while the neutral model allows flat towing. In more specific terms, this means that you can tow your Cherokee behind your recreational vehicle. It also allows the mechanical locking of the rear axle, in addition to offering the Selec-Terrain traction management system (with an additional Rock mode). This system is also paired with Selec-Speed Control for optimal power control in difficult conditions.
With different versions delivering varying levels of capability, the Jeep Brand 4x4 systems offer just the right amount of torque distribution and grip for your daily adventures.
